COVER DESIGN

PENGUIN

For my submission, I designed a reimagined book cover for “Daisy Jones & The Six.”

The book delves into the fictional band’s rise to fame that came to define rock ‘n’ roll in the late 1970s

in LA. It also explores the themes of alcoholism and drug abuse that contribute to the band’s sudden breakup and demise.

My design utilises surrealism to symbolise the key themes in the book. Daisy is depicted trapped in a whiskey bottle while singing, a pose open
to interpretation as both passionate and drowning. This represents her obliviousness to her alcohol addiction, ultimately leading to the downfall of her music career.

Inspired by 1970s rock posters to align with the book’s era, the art style features bold, contrasting colours, risograph prints (created in Photoshop), and hand-drawn illustrations with psychedelic patterns to evoke themes of drug addiction in the book.
